Are you stretching out your thighs enough? That may be why the muscles are bulky rather than lean. Sun Salutation (there’s loads of youtube videos on it) would be my recommendation.
If you lie in a crab and raise and lower one leg at a time very, very slowly. Pull in your bum muscles- the leg movements are coming from your abs and glutes and not really from your legs.
If you want to keep doing squats, try less repetitions with a heavier weight- this is counterintuitive but legs are an exception to the ”heavy weight builds bulkier muscle rule”. Another thing is that it is only really the going back up part of squats that works your bum- go down quite fast but then when you are coming up do it really slowly and clench your bum- this will work your bum without making your thighs bigger.
The easiest bum workout of all time that you can do anywhere is just clenches. I personally do ten squeezes, followed by clenching without stopping for as long as I can physically hold my butt cheeks together- you should really feel the burn with this. I repeat this about ten times a day, when I’m sitting in class, when I’m standing in a line etc, so it doesn’t interfere with your day at all :)
